Main areas of research: Relationships between art, aesthetics and the new media; contemporary art (net art, video art, performing art), literary criticism, media studies, visual studies, phenomenology of imaginary, digital culture, ‘culturology’ (science of culture).
Currently, he is Visiting Scholar at the University of Toronto, McLuhan Program (Centenary Visiting Fellowship).

Research project “Art on the Web” – From 2000 to 2002
A research programme focused on the relationship between Internet and Art history, the results of which were developed as the first rational guide on the artistic resources on the web published in Italy.

“MultiLab” – From 2003 to 2005
Founder and coordinator of the research/training project entitled “MultiLab”, on Digitalization of Historical Video Art Archive, advanced educational laboratories on Humanistic Computing at the University of Bologna (Department of Visual Arts). Within this research/training project, he has trained a wide range of students, at both the Graduate and Post-Graduate levels.

“Videomorphosis, expressive forms of contemporary art” – From 2005 to date
Since 2005 he works under the guidance of Professor Renato Barilli on the research project «Videomorphosis, expressive forms of contemporary art» promoted by the Department of Visual Arts of the University of Bologna.

“Technologies of Memory in Art” – 2009
Interdisciplinary research programme “Technologies of Memory in Art” promoted by Radboud University of Nijmegen (NL), Professor Anneke Smelik, within the international project ACUME, Approaching Cultural Memory in Europe.

“ArtTube” – 2010
PRIN project “ArtTube” promoted by University of Padova, Faculty of Humanities, Professor Guido Bartorelli. The project was designed with an interdisciplinary approach in order to study the experimental videos published on YouTube.

Marshall McLuhan Centenary Fellowship – From September 2011 to date
Visiting Scholar at the McLuhan Program, University of Toronto, Faculty of Information and Michael’s College. The project «Probing the Aesthetics of Marshall McLuhan» aims to investigate how McLuhan’s aesthetological approach could be applied as a tool to asses and understand the evolution of forms of expressions typical of contemporary art and experimentation.
